Happy Weekend!

Happy Weekend!

It will surely be a cold one here in the UK but some splodges of colour are coming through here and there. Snowdrops abound and the occasional early gem of a flower appearing. This little Iris is variety Joyce – a favourite of my late Mum Joyce too. A single flower is out; it is right in front of a solar light so perhaps just a bit warmer than the other bulbs that are not yet in bud.

It got me thinking about over-wintering and how we also tend to slow down in the colder months. The promise of warmer weather encourages us to plan and grow – perhaps you’re already planning what to grow in the garden or travels for the year?

New work:

What have I been up to? Well, some more work is completed: ‘Red’ is an acrylic painted re-work of a pencil drawing that is dear to me:

The drawing was completed at a very difficult stage in my life when the conflict and unhappiness of a divorce was in full flow. It has been in the same ‘off the peg’ frame for years which no doubt has saved it from damage!

Art is definitely an emotional bolt-hole for me and the image of this vibrant model on the front of some magazine or other came to symbolise resilience and feminine power for me. Only recently did I feel I wanted to complete a painted version – in my minds eye I had the usual earthy tones but the red became more prominent as I worked and embodies her spirit well, I hope.

I’ve also been to my first Herts Visual Arts Group meeting – a lively and talented group who I hope to be inspired by and learn much more from in the coming months and I will also be completing some more work on the new Tree Lore series in the coming weeks – the hope is to have enough finished pieces to pull together a reasonable range for cards or small gift items – I will announce here first with some offers.

In the meantime take a look at my existing small collection on Teemill here: https://debm-webbart.teemill.com/

Joy-filled Jottings! September.... It turned out to be a month of many things – the best of which were relaxation, new experience and new connection. As our holiday ran into the first week of September and was our first visit to Crete I have to mention it ….we stayed at the most relaxing hotel ever. The staff were great, the food delicious and the surroundings calm and classy. Nothing was rushed and no tensions about seating or sunbeds. We explored parts of this large island too. The gorges...

Joy-filled Jottings! Productivity I've been thinking about productivity a lot lately; what it means for me and how I measure myself. We are all so different in how and what we place value upon in all areas of our busy and multi-faceted lives. Through July and early August I planned a break from creating art and to focus instead on spending time with my big sis who was staying with us and in any spare moments to revamp my website and update products (prints, cards etc) - making sure they...

A sneak preview! Just a very short one here with an update on more ongoing works that are beginning to form a collection I am calling 'Tree Lore' which combines interests in plants, trees and the traditions, myths and legends surrounding them. I have shared my Holly work previously on social media and have been building up more works to shape a collection that covers the tree zodiac of the Ogham calendar plus more trees (28 in total) and the myths and traditions that surround them. In...
